We are excited to share another research publication from the team at the Foot and Ankle Center of Iowa. This publication highlights the technique our surgeons use to obtain the best sagittal (up and down) position of a Triplane MTP Fusion (big toe joint) and this position as it relates to patient-reported functional outcomes and satisfaction. This procedure is the gold standard for painful arthritis of the big toe joint (with or without a bunion).
The team of surgeons at the Foot and Ankle Center of Iowa is leading the way in research and procedural techniques for this powerful procedure. Our team has developed a method to drive correction of the metatarsal through triplane big-toe joint manipulation and fixation. We have been using the two-plate technique that you see for well over 15 years and have published healing results better than anything we used prior.
