Hello! Dr. Mindi checking in. The weekend was very uneventful and a lot more of the same… sitting a lot with my right foot elevated.

Monday, one week post-op, I went back to work. You can see my video here: https://youtu.be/z0JrciYdYSk, and Paul took some “back to work” pictures of me.

Monday I was at the office doing admin work, so I sat around with my leg elevated most of the day. We do have stairs up to my business office, but going up slowly sideways worked really well. I did video that, but it was pretty boring, so I didn’t post. Paul and I drove to work and then decided to try the new “tavern” right next door to our office for a drink and dinner after work. It was a really great day back. I took 600mg ibuprofen and 650mg acetaminophen in the morning and then the same again around 6:30 pm.

Tuesday I went back to clinic in my Grimes clinic. I had blocked some appointment times, not knowing what I would feel up to, so I didn’t have a full schedule, but it was a steady one. I wore my boot and felt really good all day. The boot had irritated my foot at the surgical site a little on Monday with a weird pressure on the bottom, but I didn’t notice that at all Tuesday. Paul drove me to Grimes prior to heading to Fort Dodge for surgery and picked me up after. Tuesday morning I did a video of my current “walking” and what I was feeling. https://youtu.be/DG4GnabXiO4

Here are some pics of me in clinic Tuesday:

I am consistently just taking my meds just twice a day now and honestly, not sure if I need both doses. I did wake up in the middle of the night Tuesday with some minor cramping in my arch and heel. I had fully been expecting this to happen as some time. This is fairly normal because of the swelling, which irritates the nerves, along with the inflammation from surgery. I also have noticed my calf is tight from walking flat-footed, so I expected a little cramping from that too. When I woke up with the cramps, I kept my foot dorsiflexed (toes up), which is the best way to get rid of the cramp. If you plantarflex, or point your toes down, the cramp tends to get worse. I was about ready to stand up, as this can help, but thankfully it went away, and I went back to sleep.

Wednesday, which is today, I was back in our Ankeny office for an admin day. Here is a picture of my foot from this morning:

I had a great day in the office today. Today I actually wore my postoperative shoe instead of my boot because I knew I would do very little walking. My bathroom is about 5 feet from my office, and my printer and everything I need are in my office. I kept my flatfooted walking to a minimum and my leg elevated under my desk most of the day. The stairs were much simpler today and I navigated up and down without difficulty.

This morning I was hoping to get another picture of me walking and doing push-ups on my knees, but my daughter was driving me to work so I didn’t want to make either one of us late. Paul has challenged me to do 100 push-ups a day on my knees to keep myself active 😂😂. I plan to start tomorrow…(we will see 😂). Tomorrow I also head back to the OR (not for myself this time!). I will wear my boot and use a stool for my leg/knee as needed. Paul will be with me so all should be great. I am looking forward to that as well.

It is currently about 7:30 pm, and right now I have zero achiness or discomfort. I did have a little achiness in the forefoot when I got home from work because I didn’t elevate as much late in the day, but that has fully resolved, and I have very minimal swelling right now because I have been elevating for about an hour.

I look forward to sharing how the rest of the week goes. It is about 7:30 pm right now. I took my ibuprofen and Tylenol about 7:30 this morning and I haven’t taken another dose.

Good night! I will check in again soon.
