Dr. Mindi Dayton

DPM, FACFAS

Doctor Mindi Dayton was born and grew up in rural eastern Iowa and after high school attended Buena Vista University (BVU), in Storm Lake, IA. Throughout high school and college she was active in sports, both playing college basketball and coaching junior high and high school sports. Following graduation from BVU she moved to Des Moines to complete her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery (DMU-CPMS). She then completed a Podiatric Surgical Residency at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Recently Dr. Dayton completed her Masters of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree to further her understanding of healthcare delivery.

For five years following completion of residency training she practiced as a podiatry foot and ankle surgeon in Northwest Iowa with Trimark Physicians Group. In 2012 Dr. Dayton returned to DMU as Clinical Faculty and an Assistant Professor. She practiced at the DMU Foot and Ankle Clinic and taught podiatry medical students for 5 years, until leaving in 2017 to establish Midwest Bunion Center and Foot and Ankle Center of Iowa with her husband, Dr. Paul Dayton, with the goal of expanding research and development of innovative techniques for foot and ankle surgery and providing high quality care to patients in Iowa and the surrounding states.

Dr. Dayton is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rear foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Dayton has been very active in medical education and research throughout her 11 years of practice. Besides holding an academic position at DMU, she has served as a Reviewer for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and has served as a scientific poster judge for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons Annual Scientific Committee.

Dr. Dayton has co-authored many peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has presented numerous local and regional lectures. Drs. Mindi and Paul Dayton have earned several national awards for research posters and manuscripts they have completed together.

Dr. Dayton has been elected or appointed to many leadership positions during her career including the Iowa Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, President and Board Member of the Iowa Podiatric Medical Association, Young Physician Liaison to the American Podiatric Medical Association Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the Heartland Foot and Ankle Conference Assistants Committee.

Additionally, during her tenure at DMU Dr. Dayton served as chair of several university committees, as well as a member of several national committees. She was awarded the Clinical Faculty of the Year twice at DMU-CPMS, as well as the President’s Service Award and University Spotlight Award for her service to the University, College, and students.

Dr. Mindi Dayton has two daughters, Alayna and Clara and along with Dr. Paul Dayton has three step-sons, Alexander, Andrew and Weston. Together with her husband, they own and run WineStyles Ankeny to further their love of wine education and food. She enjoys watching her daughter’s activities, gardening, attending the theatre and traveling.

Dr. Paul Dayton

DPM, MS, FACFAS

Doctor Paul Dayton was born in Western New York State and after high school attended Arizona State University. Following his time in Arizona he moved to San Francisco to complete his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Masters in Podiatric Medical Education degrees at the California College of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed a Podiatric Surgical Residency at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Santa Clara California. For seven years following completion of residency training he worked in San Jose California in the department of Orthopedics and Podiatry at the Permanente Medical Group.

Dr. Dayton moved to central Iowa in 1997 where he practiced with UnityPoint Clinic Podiatry, Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge IA until establishing Midwest Bunion Center in 2017 with his wife Dr. Mindi Dayton with a goal of expanding research and development of innovative techniques for foot and ankle surgery and providing high quality care to patients in Iowa and the surrounding states.

Dr. Dayton is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rear foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Dayton has been very active in medical education and research throughout his 27 years of practice. He has held academic positions as the Director of UnityPoint Health, Trinity Regional Medical Center Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency, Assistant Professor at Des Moines University, Clinical Faculty at the California College of Podiatric Medicine and Stanford University School of Medicine, and Section Editor for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr. Dayton has co-authored many peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has presented numerous national and international lectures. As a partner with medical technology companies Dr. Dayton has collaborated with foot and ankle surgeons across the country to develop innovative procedures and is named on several US medical device patents.

Dr. Dayton has been elected or appointed to many leadership positions during his career including Board of Directors for Trimark Physicians Group and the Iowa Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, President and Board Member Iowa Podiatric Medical Association, Chief of Staff and Chairman of Peer Review Committee at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Scientific Chairman of the Heartland Foot and Ankle Conference and Chairman of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons Education and scientific Affairs Committee.

Dr. Dayton is the father of three boys, Alexander, Andrew and Weston and along with Dr. Mindi Dayton has two step daughters, Alayna and Clara. Dr. Dayton has been an avid woodworker for over 40 years and runs a small wood products company called SawdustIQ. Together with his wife they own and run WineStyles Ankeny to further their love of wine education and food. He enjoys cycling, running, playing and building  guitars and traveling.

Melissa Moylan

Melissa Moylan was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating high school, she went on to pursue her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration at AIB College of Business. Following her graduation, she worked in insurance for many years before transferring to a position at a podiatry clinic in Des Moines. After enjoying five years of podiatric office management, she went on to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration at the University of Phoenix. Melissa was first introduced to Dr. Mindi Dayton while attending the annual Heartland Foot and Ankle Conference in Des Moines. She has worked in a podiatric office for almost ten years. Melissa has one daughter, Izabella. Melissa has always had a passion for singing. When she was younger, she traveled and sang at a variety of events, from fairs to festivals, to rodeos. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, doing karaoke, going to movies or concerts, and traveling. She is very excited for the next chapter in her career and to be part of such a successful and growing clinic with two wonderful providers!

Stephanie Jurgens

Medical Assistant

Stephanie Jurgens was born and raised in Des Moines. She graduated from Dowling Catholic High School and then began taking classes at Mercy for radiology. Once she realized that she wanted to have more hands-on patient interaction, she switched gears and went to DMACC and obtained her Certified Medical Assistant degree. After practicing in family medicine for five years, she accepted an opportunity to work at the podiatry clinic at Des Moines University. It was then she met both Dr. Paul Dayton and Dr. Mindi Dayton. After working at DMU for two years, she realized that she had a passion for the podiatry field.

Stephanie has one daughter, Parker. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, scrapbooking, DIY crafts, riding motorcycles, and going to movies. She has a love of music and enjoys a good book. She is excited to see what this next chapter in her career has to offer and she is thrilled to be part of a practice with such experienced and caring providers!
